Let’s set up voicemail and check a real message. SessionPBX supports personal mailboxes for individual members and shared mailboxes for ring groups and queues.

In Team Members, edit the person who needs a mailbox. Under Access and features, check that Voicemail is switched on. Alex’s mailbox is already enabled, so we’ll keep that setting.

Under Email notifications, Voicemail email sends the member a copy of each new message with the recording attached. Check the member’s email address, then save any changes.

For a shared mailbox, open Call Routing and edit the ring group or queue. Reception uses Voicemail when nobody answers, with a monitored team email address. Save the configuration. Shared messages belong to the team destination, rather than one member.

Enabling a mailbox is only part of the setup. Check the route that sends callers there. Our Office hours flow sends after-hours calls to Alex’s mailbox on extension one thousand. Test the actual route with a short message.

In the member workspace, open Voicemail. We have left two real test messages: one for Alex and one for Reception. The Box column shows their destinations. Choose Personal to focus on your own mailbox, then select Play.

The message plays directly in the list. Use Pause when you need a moment to make a note, and move the slider to replay a section. The speed control cycles through normal speed, one and a half, and double speed. We’ll return it to normal.

Playing a new message marks it as heard. Choose New to see messages still waiting; only Reception remains here. Switch to Heard and Alex’s personal message appears. These filters change what you see without deleting the messages.

Return to All messages, then choose Reception to open the shared mailbox. Play its message and confirm that the expected audio is present. You can also search by the caller’s name or number to find a particular message.

To remove a message, select its checkbox and choose Delete. Read the confirmation carefully: deletion cannot be undone. We’re removing only our personal test message. Deleting a shared message also removes that item for the other members who can access it.

Return to All when you’re finished. The Reception message is still available. Keep a clear team process for checking shared mailboxes and returning calls, and test voicemail again whenever you change its route or destination.
