Ring Groups

A ring group calls several team members from one internal number. Use one when any available person can answer immediately—for example reception, accounts or a small sales team.

Use a call queue instead when callers should wait on hold until an agent becomes available.

Create a ring group

  1. Open the SessionPBX project.
  2. Select Call Routing.
  3. Open Ring groups and select Add ring group.
  4. Enter a unique Number and a descriptive Name.
  5. Choose a Strategy:
    • Ring all at once calls every selected member simultaneously.
    • Ring in order calls members sequentially in the displayed member order.
  6. Set the Ring timeout between 5 and 120 seconds.
  7. Choose what happens If nobody answers.
  8. Select at least one member.
  9. Select Create ring group.

Choose a no-answer destination

The fallback can be:

  • Voicemail
  • Hang up
  • A member
  • Another ring group
  • A queue
  • A call flow
  • An external phone number

External numbers must use E.164 format, for example +442071234567. Avoid creating loops—for example, group A falling back to group B while group B ultimately returns to group A.

Configure shared voicemail

Choose Voicemail as the fallback and enter a Team voicemail email to deliver new messages to a shared address such as reception@example.com.

If the email is left blank, the caller hears the voicemail handling configured by the service, but no team email delivery address is assigned. Shared messages are also available in the member workspace to authorised group members.

Route calls to the group

Callers can reach the group in three ways:

  • Dial its internal number.
  • Assign an inbound phone number to the group under SIP trunks.
  • Select the group as the target of a Ring step in a call flow.

Enable, edit or delete a group

Use the Enabled switch for a reversible pause. Edit the group to change its members, strategy, timeout or fallback.

Before deleting a group, update any phone-number route, call flow or forwarding rule that refers to its number.

Test the group

  1. Dial the group’s internal number.
  2. Confirm the intended phones ring in the correct pattern.
  3. Answer on one device and confirm the other ringing stops.
  4. Repeat without answering and verify the fallback.
  5. If voicemail is configured, leave a message and verify access or email delivery.
