Check why your SIP account will not register

The controlled example uses an incorrect port on an isolated local account. Use the account details, server address, port and transport supplied by your own phone service.

Steps
- Open Accounts, check the status and select the affected account.
- Check your internet connection and compare the account details with your provider’s instructions.
- Switch off Enabled to edit. Check the username and domain; enter a new password only if it needs replacing.
- Open Advanced SIP settings → SIP identity and check the authentication username and SIP proxy when your provider requires them.
- Under Registration, check the transport. Save the advanced settings.
- Switch Enabled back on, wait for Registered, then save and check the account list.
- If registration still fails, give your provider the error and its time without sharing your password.

Open Accounts and check the status beside the affected account. Here, one account is registered and the other shows Registration failed.
Open the failed account. Before changing anything, check your internet connection and compare the saved details with your provider’s instructions.
Switch off Enabled to edit the settings. Check the username and domain. Enter a new password only if you need to replace the saved one.
Open Advanced SIP settings, then SIP identity. Our controlled example has the wrong port in the SIP proxy address.
Replace it with the correct address. This is our local test server; use the address and port supplied by your own service.
Under Registration, also check that the transport matches your provider’s instructions.
Save the advanced settings and return to the account’s enable switch.
Switch Enabled back on and wait for Registered. Our corrected account has now connected successfully.
Save the account and check the list again. If it still fails, give your provider the error and the time it happened, without sharing your password.
