Auto Answer

Availability: These instructions describe the new call-handling controls, currently in testing. They may not appear in your installed Android or iPhone app. Availability depends on your app version and provider.

Auto Answer accepts an incoming call for the selected account after a chosen delay. Calls are answered with audio only; the camera stays off, including when the incoming call offers video.

Set up Auto Answer

  1. Open Menu > Settings > Accounts and select the account.
  2. Open Advanced SIP settings and scroll to the bottom.
  3. Open Auto Answer and turn on Enable Auto Answer.
  4. Set the options below, then tap the checkmark to save.

Auto Answer has its own save control and can be changed while the account is enabled, where your provider allows it. You do not need to disable or reconfigure the SIP account just to change Auto Answer.

SettingWhat it does
Answer delayWaits from 0 to 30 seconds before answering. Zero answers immediately and leaves no countdown time to cancel.
Audio routeUses System default, Speaker, or a connected Headset.
Only when a headset is connectedRequires a connected headset even if another audio route is selected. Selecting the Headset route also requires one.
Play an announcement tonePlays a short tone when the app attempts the automatic answer.

Repeat these steps for each account that should answer automatically. Turn Enable Auto Answer off and save to stop automatic answering for an account.

When automatic answering can happen

The app must be in the foreground, the device must be unlocked, microphone access must be granted, and no other call may be in progress. Any required headset must be available. Do Not Disturb must also allow the call.

Auto Answer does not answer calls while the app is in the background or the device is locked. Those calls use the normal incoming-call controls. Moving the app to the foreground after a call has already arrived does not start a new automatic-answer countdown for that call.

Cancel an automatic answer

During a non-zero delay, the incoming-call screen shows an Auto Answer countdown. Tap Cancel to stop automatic answering for that call. You can still answer or decline manually; cancelling the countdown does not hang up the caller.

If the app leaves the foreground, the device locks, or a required headset disconnects during the countdown, automatic answering stops. Returning to the app or reconnecting the headset does not restart it for that call.

If the call is not answered automatically

Check the receiving account’s Auto Answer setting, microphone permission, lock state, headset connection and any other ongoing calls. Check DND and its scheduled rules too. If a required headset is unavailable, answer the call manually.

SessionCloud providers may supply or lock these settings. When Managed by your administrator appears, contact your provider to change the policy. Where available, Use administrator defaults removes your personal Auto Answer override. See the provider provisioning reference for the planned managed controls and their availability.
