Auto Answer

Availability: These instructions describe the new call-handling controls, currently in testing. They may not appear in your installed Windows or macOS app. Availability depends on your app version and provider.

Auto Answer accepts incoming calls for a selected account after a chosen delay. It answers with audio only and leaves the camera off, including when an incoming call offers video.

Configure an account

  1. Open Settings > Accounts and select the account.
  2. Open Advanced SIP settings, scroll to the bottom, and open Auto Answer.
  3. Turn on Enable Auto Answer, set the options below, and save with the checkmark.

You can change Auto Answer while the account is enabled, where your provider allows it. Its save control does not require changing SIP registration settings. Configure each account separately, or turn Enable Auto Answer off and save to disable it for an account.

SettingWhat it does
Answer delayWaits 0–30 seconds. At zero, there is no countdown interval in which to cancel.
Audio routeSelects System default, Speaker, or Headset.
Only when a headset is connectedRequires an available headset. Selecting the Headset audio route also requires one.
Play an announcement tonePlays a short tone when the app attempts the automatic answer.

For headset operation, select connected devices for both headset playback and recording in the app’s audio-device settings. System-default devices alone do not satisfy the headset requirement. See Speaker settings and Microphone settings.

Conditions and cancellation

The app must be in the foreground, the computer must be unlocked, microphone access must be available, and no other call may be in progress. Any required headset must be connected. Do Not Disturb takes priority.

During a non-zero delay, click Cancel on the Auto Answer countdown to keep the call available for manual answer or decline. Cancelling the countdown does not hang up the caller.

Moving away from the app, locking the computer, or losing a required headset stops automatic answering. Returning to the app or reconnecting the headset does not restart the countdown for that call. A call that arrived while the app was ineligible remains available for manual handling.

If Auto Answer does not run, check the receiving account, microphone access, app focus, lock state, other calls, headset playback and recording selections, and DND schedules.

Administrator settings

SessionCloud providers may supply defaults, disable a feature or prevent changes. A locked setting is labelled Managed by your administrator. If changes are allowed, Use administrator defaults removes your personal Auto Answer override where that action is shown. See the provider provisioning reference for the planned managed controls and their availability.
