Telnyx

Telnyx connects to SessionPBX using a SIP connection. SessionPBX can read your Telnyx account to fill in your phone numbers.

Telnyx requires full international format, +E.164.

Before you start

Create a SIP connection in the Telnyx portal under Real-Time Communications → Voice → SIP Trunking. Choose Credentials authentication unless you have a reason to use FQDN or IP.

Note the connection’s FQDN, and the username and password Telnyx generates for it.

Create a V2 API key under API Keys if you want SessionPBX to read your numbers.

Connect your Telnyx account

  1. Open the SessionPBX project and select Call Routing.
  2. On SIP trunks, select Add trunk.
  3. Name the trunk, then choose Telnyx as the Provider.
  4. Enter your V2 API key and select Connect account.

SessionPBX lists your phone numbers and the SIP connections on the account, so you can confirm which one you are configuring.

Your API key is used for this lookup only. It is not stored, and nothing in your Telnyx account is changed.

Telnyx does not publish a termination host that can be read from the account, because it depends on how the connection was created. Enter the FQDN from your SIP connection yourself.

Complete the trunk

  • Connection — enter the FQDN from your Telnyx SIP connection as the Host. Port 5060 and UDP are filled in.
  • Authentication — keep Username and password and enter the credentials Telnyx generated. Leave Auth realm and From domain blank unless Telnyx asked for specific values.
  • Inbound — your numbers are listed if you connected the account. Otherwise enter them one per line.
  • Outbound — set Caller ID to a number on this Telnyx account.

Select Create trunk.

Finish in the Telnyx portal

Add your SessionPBX region’s service address to the SIP connection so Telnyx sends inbound calls to it, and assign your numbers to that connection.

If you switch this trunk to IP authentication instead, take Telnyx’s signalling ranges from sip.telnyx.com . Their IP whitelisting article lists webhook addresses, which are a different set — using those as an allow-list rejects every inbound call.

Test

  1. Call one of your Telnyx numbers from an outside phone and confirm the right extensions ring.
  2. Enable Outbound PSTN for one member, call a public number, and confirm two-way audio and the caller ID you set.
