Messaging requires the relevant premium features and support from your phone service. Tutorial test is an isolated local service that replies automatically.

Steps
- In Accounts, open the account and temporarily switch off Enabled.
- Open Advanced SIP settings → Messaging, switch on Enable IM & Presence and save.
- Enable the account again, confirm registration and save.
- Open Contacts → Buddies and select the add-person button.
- Choose the account, enter a display name and SIP address or extension, then save.
- Open Messages → + → New IM and choose the buddy.
- Type and check your message, then select the send arrow.
- Use the back arrow to find the conversation in the message list.

Messaging needs to be enabled in your premium features and supported by your phone service. In Accounts, open the account and temporarily switch off Enabled.
Open Advanced SIP settings and expand Messaging.
Switch on Enable IM and Presence, then save the advanced settings.
Enable the account again, check that it registers and save.
Open Contacts and choose Buddies. Select the add-person button to create a messaging contact.
Choose the account and enter a display name and SIP address or extension. We’re adding a local test service.
Save the buddy. Presence information depends on what your provider supports.
Open Messages, select the plus button and choose New IM. Then select the buddy you want to message.
Select the message field and type your text. Check the recipient and message before sending.
Select the send arrow. Our test service replies automatically, so the conversation shows both the sent message and its reply.
Use the back arrow to return to Messages. Your conversation stays in the list so you can open it again later.
