SessionPBX
SessionPBX is a cloud phone system built into SessionCloud. It gives your team internal extension calling, softphone provisioning, messaging and presence without requiring a PBX server at your office.
Connect your own SIP carrier when you need public phone numbers or calls to the telephone network. SessionTalk operates the phone system, while your carrier continues to supply and bill your numbers and call traffic.
What you can configure
- Team members and extension numbers
- SessionCloud Softphone access on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android
- Internal voice and video calls, messaging, presence and a team directory
- SIP trunks, inbound numbers and outbound calling
- Per-member outbound caller ID and call forwarding
- Ring groups and call queues
- Visual call flows with business-hours routing, announcements, phone menus and voicemail
- Personal and shared voicemail
- Call recording policies, call logs and reports
How the system fits together
- An administrator creates a SessionPBX project in the SessionCloud portal.
- The administrator adds team members and assigns each person an extension.
- Each member receives an invitation to install and provision the SessionCloud Softphone.
- An optional SIP trunk connects the workspace to a carrier for inbound and outbound public calls.
- Inbound numbers route to a member, ring group, queue or call flow.
SessionPBX or your own PBX
When creating a Teams project, choose Use our hosted PBX to use the features in this guide. Choose Bring your own PBX only when SessionCloud should provision softphones against a SIP system that you already operate.
The selected voice region determines where the hosted workspace is created. Choose the region closest to most of your users and callers. Moving an active workspace to another region is not a routine setting change, so confirm this choice before launch.
Plans and feature access
Core hosted team calling, softphone provisioning, SIP trunks and phone-number routing are available with SessionPBX. Advanced inbound handling—including ring groups, call queues, call flows and reports—requires Teams Business.
Controls that are not included in the current subscription remain visible only where an upgrade is available.
Recommended setup order
For the cleanest launch, complete the setup in this order:
- Create and activate the hosted workspace.
- Create extensions and invite team members.
- Install and provision the apps.
- Connect a SIP trunk and add phone numbers.
- Create ring groups, queues or call flows.
- Place inbound and outbound test calls before publishing numbers to customers.
Administrator and member workspaces
Administrators configure the phone system in the SessionCloud portal . Team members use the workspace address in their invitation email to access contacts, chat, voicemail, call history and settings.
Keep administrator access separate from day-to-day member access. A person who needs both should have their own team-member account as well as their portal administrator account.
