Set up Twilio messaging
Use a Twilio SMS number for text messages in your BYO PBX softphone account.
Availability. Use an app version and portal that support Telnyx and Twilio messaging. If provider controls are missing, contact SessionTalk to enable this feature for your portal.
Prepare your Twilio account
Choose a Twilio number with SMS enabled. Have the Account SID and Auth Token for the account that owns the number ready. If the number belongs to a subaccount, use that subaccount’s credentials. See Twilio account credentials .
Complete any number activation or destination requirements shown in your Twilio account before testing.
Connect Twilio in SessionCloud
- Open your BYO PBX project and go to Provisioning > Advanced > Messaging.
- Enable SMS and save the project settings.
- Choose Twilio for the messaging provider.
- Enter the Account SID and Auth Token, then save the connection.
- Copy the webhook URL shown for the connection.
Keep the Auth Token in the portal’s provider settings. Users set up their softphone with the account provisioning you provide.
Set up incoming messages
In the Twilio Console, open the number’s configuration and find its messaging settings. Set A message comes in to Webhook, paste the URL from SessionCloud, select HTTP POST and save.
If a Messaging Service manages incoming messages for the number, check its incoming-message settings too. The effective destination must be the URL for this SessionCloud connection. See Twilio’s incoming-message configuration .
Assign the number to a user
In the project’s messaging settings, add the Twilio number and enter the user’s SIP username and SIP domain. Use the number in full international format, such as +447700900123, and save the assignment.
Provide updated provisioning for that account. If you use QR codes, create a new code after saving the number assignment and give it to the intended user.
Test the account
- Open Messages in the provisioned softphone and send a short text to a test mobile number.
- Reply from the mobile and check that it appears in the same conversation.
- Background the softphone, lock the screen and send another reply.
- Tap the notification and check that the conversation opens.
If a step fails, use Troubleshooting SMS.
