Set up Telnyx messaging
Use a Telnyx SMS number for text messages in your BYO PBX softphone account.
Availability. Use an app version and portal that support Telnyx and Twilio messaging. If provider controls are missing, contact SessionTalk to enable this feature for your portal.
Prepare your Telnyx account
- In the Telnyx portal, choose a number with SMS enabled.
- Create or select a Messaging Profile and assign the number to it.
- Have your API key and Messaging Profile ID ready.
- Copy the account’s Public Key from Keys & Credentials > Public Key.
Telnyx documents number and profile setup and where to find your public key . Complete any number activation or destination requirements shown in your Telnyx account before testing.
Connect Telnyx in SessionCloud
- Open your BYO PBX project and go to Provisioning > Advanced > Messaging.
- Enable SMS and save the project settings.
- Choose Telnyx for the messaging provider.
- Enter the API key, public key and messaging profile ID, then save the connection.
- Copy the webhook URL shown for the connection.
Keep the API key in the portal’s provider settings. Users set up their softphone with the account provisioning you provide.
Set up incoming messages
Open the number’s messaging profile in Telnyx. Paste the URL from SessionCloud into its Webhook URL setting and save. Check that the number is assigned to this same profile. See Telnyx’s incoming-message setup .
The URL must come from the connection for this project. A URL belonging to another application will send incoming messages to that application instead.
Assign the number to a user
In the project’s messaging settings, add the Telnyx number and enter the user’s SIP username and SIP domain. Use the number in full international format, such as +447700900123, and save the assignment.
Provide updated provisioning for that account. If you use QR codes, create a new code after saving the number assignment and give it to the intended user.
Test the account
- Open Messages in the provisioned softphone and send a short text to a test mobile number.
- Reply from the mobile and check that it appears in the same conversation.
- Background the softphone, lock the screen and send another reply.
- Tap the notification and check that the conversation opens.
