Connect sipgate trunking (UK) to SessionPBX
sipgate trunking is sipgate’s UK SIP trunk service for phone systems. SessionPBX connects by registering to sipgate with your trunk’s SIP-ID and SIP password.
You bring your own sipgate trunking account and numbers. SessionPBX doesn’t supply sipgate service.
About this guide. The sipgate settings on this page were checked against sipgate’s published documentation on 19 October 2026. The SessionPBX field names come from the Add SIP trunk wizard in the product. If sipgate shows a different value in your account, use theirs.
Before you start
From your sipgate trunking account:
- The trunk’s SIP-ID and SIP password
- Your sipgate numbers
- Which number sipgate presents as your caller ID
Don’t assign the SIP-ID itself as a number on the trunk. sipgate’s own troubleshooting guide lists this as a cause of incoming calls failing.
sipgate settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Registrar and outbound proxy | sipconnect.sipgate.co.uk |
| Port and transport | 5060, UDP |
| Username | Your trunk’s SIP-ID |
| Password | Your trunk’s SIP password |
| From domain | sipconnect.sipgate.co.uk |
| Authentication | Registration |
| Number format | E.164, for example 442033933909 |
sipgate requires registration to deliver incoming calls. It sends each call with the dialled number, in full E.164, in the Request-URI, which is what SessionPBX uses to route it.
Add the trunk in SessionPBX
- Open the SessionPBX project and select Call Routing.
- On SIP trunks, select Add trunk.
- Provider: name the trunk, for example
sipgate, and choose Generic carrier (registration). - Connection: set Host to
sipconnect.sipgate.co.uk, Port to5060and Transport to UDP. Leave Direction on Both directions. - Authentication: choose Username and password.
- Username: your SIP-ID.
- Password: your SIP password.
- Leave Auth realm and From domain blank. They default to the host,
sipconnect.sipgate.co.uk, which is the From domain sipgate expects. - Check that Register to this carrier is on. It’s on by default for Username and password. TLS registration isn’t available yet, so keep Transport on UDP.
- Leave Registration user blank and Registration expiry at
3600seconds.
- Inbound: list each sipgate number in international format, one per line, for example
+442033933909. - Outbound: set Caller ID to the sipgate number you want to present. Leave Assert caller ID in on From header only.
- Select Create trunk.
Caller ID
sipgate only presents sipgate numbers as caller ID. It reads a different presentation number from a P-Preferred-Identity header, which SessionPBX doesn’t send. If the called phone shows a different number from the one you set, change the trunk’s default number in your sipgate account to match.
SessionPBX addresses for sipgate
Give sipgate the address for the region your workspace is hosted in. If you’re not sure which region that is, email support@sessiontalk.co.uk.
| Region | Hostname | IP address |
|---|---|---|
| London | uk.sip.sessiontalk.io | 206.189.121.32 |
| New York | us.sip.sessiontalk.io | 134.122.14.236 |
| Singapore | asia.sip.sessiontalk.io | 152.42.251.112 |
SessionPBX accepts calls from carriers on UDP port 5060 or TLS port 5061. TCP isn’t accepted for incoming calls. Calls that SessionPBX sends to sipgate can use UDP, TCP or TLS on whatever port sipgate specifies.
sipgate doesn’t need these addresses for a registered trunk, because SessionPBX connects out to sipgate.
Route your numbers
On Call Routing, use Inbound number routing to choose where each number rings: everyone, a team member, a ring group, a call queue or a call flow. See Phone Numbers & Outbound Calls.
Allow members to call out
Outbound calling is off for new members. Open Team Members, edit the member, turn on Outbound PSTN under Access & features, and select Save member.
Members can dial numbers in international format, such as +447700900123. SessionPBX sends the number to sipgate in international format.
Test the trunk
- Call one of your sipgate numbers from an outside phone and check that the right destination rings.
- With Outbound PSTN on for one member, call a public number. Check that audio works both ways and that the called phone shows the caller ID you expect.
- If you call into an IVR, check that key presses work. SessionPBX sends and receives key presses as RFC 2833 telephone events.
If calls fail, email support@sessiontalk.co.uk with the time of the call, the number you called from and the number you called.
