Bring Your Own SIP Trunk
SessionPBX is the hosted phone system. It doesn’t supply SIP trunks, phone numbers or calls to the public telephone network. To make and receive calls on real phone numbers, each customer workspace needs a SIP trunk from a carrier.
You choose who provides the trunk:
- Your customer’s own carrier: your customer keeps their existing numbers and pays their carrier directly.
- A carrier account you provide: you supply the trunk and numbers as part of your service, and charge your customer for them.
Either way, trunk, number and call charges are separate from your SessionTalk partner bill. They aren’t included in partner prices.
Calls between team members inside a workspace don’t need a trunk.
Connect the trunk
- In your partner workspace, open the customer and select Open workspace as admin.
- Follow Connect a SIP Trunk to add the trunk.
- Add the customer’s numbers and set outbound caller ID. See Phone Numbers & Outbound Calls.
- Route each number to a member, ring group, queue or call flow.
- Make inbound and outbound test calls before publishing the numbers.
The Carrier Guides give settings for common carriers. Any carrier that offers a standard SIP trunk can be used. See Other carriers.
What to get from the carrier
Before you start, ask the carrier for:
- the SIP host, port and transport
- how the trunk authenticates (by IP address, or a username and password)
- the carrier’s signalling IP addresses
- the inbound phone numbers
- an authorised outbound caller ID
Connect a SIP Trunk has the full list.
Who supports what
The carrier supports the trunk, numbers and call delivery on their network. You provide first-line support to your customer. Contact partner support if you think a problem is in SessionPBX.
